Nature Art

This class is a series of 12 programs that meets once each month, all year long. You will learn simple, but beautiful, embroidery techniques as we explore some iconic, as well as secretive wildflowers in Missouri. These flowers will range from our Ozark mountain glades to our lowland swamps. Attending each class will acquaint you with each flower’s habitat needs, bloom period, and light requirements. In addition, you will learn more about who pollinates the plant and who might depend on the plant for food.

Conservation Families

When plants and animals die, they sure don’t go to waste! A team of decomposers steps up and helps recycle all the nutrients. Meet nature’s clean-up crew and find out just how hard they work as we investigate rotten logs and leaf litter.

Hunter Education Skills Session

This skills session will satisfy Part Two of Missouri Hunter Education requirements. To obtain hunter education certification you must have completed Part One (online, self-study, or classroom session) and bring along your skills session qualifier certificate or student manual with the review questions completed.

Students 15 and under must also bring a copy of their birth certificate or other proof of age. The final exam will be administered at the end of the skills session.

Special Event

Calling all agents! In this Agents of Discovery mission, explore the natural beauty of Wood Duck Swamp. Using the app and trail prompts, complete challenges and answer questions as you walk through Wood Duck Swamp to complete the mission. Best of luck, agents!

Pond to Plate

Fishing is a great chance to get closer with nature, spend time with family, and feed those close to you. In this virtual program we will be covering how to clean, prepare, and cook catfish. Join us for a real-time demonstration of how to remove the fillets and cook them both on a stovetop and in the oven.

Little Acorns

Cruising on land or swimming in the water, turtles have been around for a long time. Check out these scaly, shelled animals as we learn what makes turtles special. Little Acorns programs are designed to help children ages 3-6 learn about the natural world through hands on experiences, crafts, and focused free-play activities.

Meetings/Special Use

Please welcome “Birds and Butterflies,

and Other Nature Scenes of Missouri” by artist Joseph Parish.

This exhibit is multimedia, with the various works being done in classic

watercolor, opaque watercolor (French Gouache), acrylic, oils, and

photography.

The work is inspired mostly from original photographs taken by the artist in

Missouri and the Midwest ranging from his own backyard to the Mississippi

Flyway.

Meetings/Special Use

Come visit during the month of May to see artwork from Wild Wanders, a local homeschool group, featured in our auditorium. This groups loves to meet up to hike, play, and learn about the outside world together. They believe that time in nature is valuable even on the not-so-beautiful days. Various artwork pieces will be represented.
