Special Event

Are you alive? You can thank a bug for that! Bugs are the rulers of the world, serving as predators, prey, food sources (even for humans), pollinators of our crops, scavengers, decomposers, and drivers of nearly all food chains.

Join us at Bug Blitz to explore and celebrate the fascinating world of insects. This come-and-go event welcomes you anytime from 4 to 10:30 pm.

Nature Art

Artist Tom Schulte, creator of Runge's large box turtle sculpture near the front entrance, is back with his collection of nature-inspired oils over copper relief. By using oil paint and aged copper, Tom creates intriguing and beautiful landscapes.

Tom Schulte grew up in rural Missouri. He received a BFA from Brigham Young University and an MFA from Claremont Graduate University. His artwork is in collections across the US and Canada. No registration required. All ages

Habitats

Missouri is a special state, boasting several interesting and unique natural communities. Join a naturalist for a virtual tour through these various ecoregions to learn what makes them different and how these natural communities have influenced the culture of our state. Participants will also receive information on locations across the state they can visit to see these interesting natural communities. The presenter will send a link to participants by e-mail the day before and the morning of the program.

Registration required. All ages

Native Plants

Missouri Prairie Foundation board member Jane Haslag and native plant enthusiast Bill White will offer insight on adding native plants to your landscaping. Whether you are interested in promoting pollinators, having a more sustainable yard, or are just wanting the beauty of native plants, you will find answers to your questions in this program. Participants will receive an e-mail with a link to the program both the day before and an hour before the presentation begins. Registration required. All ages

Babes in the Woods

“ . . . and fish is fish and that’s that!” So writes Leo Lionni in his classic book, Fish Is Fish. We will explore their watery world this month through crafts, activities, and a story. Registration required. Ages 0-2

Insects

Bizz-zz-z…chaz-zz-z…brez-zz-z….gazzee-e. What’s all that noise? It’s the “Boisterous Bugs” getting ready for their show in Runge’s puppet theatre! When you come to their performance, you will meet grasshopper, cricket, and their friends, and discover why they are creating so much music. No registration required. All ages
